Many north Atlantic hurricanes start off west Africa, for example Danielle (green), Alex (red), Jeanne (cyan), Ivan (pale yellow) and Nicole (white). Most of these then curve northward and avoid or graze the USA, such as Bonnie (bright yellow) and Danielle (green). Sometimes the storm heads straight for land, for example Georges (orange). Others originate in the Caribbean (Mitch) or in the Gulf of Mexico (Earl).
Note that T.S means Tropical Storm and applies to storms with winds below 74 mph.
